Pan American Junior Athletics Championships 2009

Six athletes with ties to Ohio competed at the Pan American Junior Championship this last weekend, and all fared pretty well.  No Golds, but Ohioans come home with a slew of hardware, including two silvers and three bronze medals.

Leesburg alum Shericka Ward took fourth place at the Pan American Junior Championship in Trinadad.  The Villanova rising sophomore ran a time of 13.64.  Some Florida Gators are doing well also.  Gray Horn is currently in second place to the amazing Curtis Beach.  Horn trails Beach 3886 to 3740.  And Alisha Usery lead for a while, but settled for fourth place in the 400 with 54.33.  More coverage:  MileSplit US | USATF | National Scholastic

Already holding the title of the fastest youth ever over the 110-meter hurdles, Wayne Davis (Raleigh, N.C.) is now the fastest junior athlete ever in the 110m hurdles. Having already run a world junior leading 13.19 in the first round, Davis shot out of the blocks and into the lead accelerating all the way down the track to win in a pending world junior record time of 13.08 seconds. The previous record of 13.12 was set in 2002 by 2004 Olympic gold medalist Liu Xiang. 2008 World Junior silver medalist Booker Nunley (Columbia, S.C.) once again claimed silver in 13.32.

NDIANAPOLIS - The 2009 Pan American Junior Athletics Championship will showcase many of the top international junior athletes, July 31-August 2 in Trinidad and Tobago.

Team USA picked up another 19 medals as the men and women won the 4x100-meter relays, Curtis Beach won the decathlon and Chalonda Goodman won her second and third gold medals Saturday night at the 2009 Pan Am Junior Championships at Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port of Spain, Trinidad.
